In 1947, the Sippican Woman's Club began awarding scholarships to Marion students. Since then, the Club's philanthropic focus has been on providing educational awards and financial support to deserving high school graduates and continuing-education students.
ALICE RYDER This educational award is presented to the highest-ranking 8th grade English student. Alice Ryder was the first President of the Sippican Woman’s Club and author of the book LANDS OF SIPPICAN, which recounts the history of when Marion, Rochester, and Mattapoisett were one community. LU CHEVRIER This scholarship goes to a graduating senior who aspires to teach or has provided support through tutoring or mentoring other students. This award honors Lu Chevrier, who served as President of the Sippican Woman's Club for three years and was a dedicated board member for many years, also fulfilling the role of house manager.
